How to empty your Biodigester

1. Remove crust from Outer Settlement Chamber.
2. Empty from Central Treatment Chamber avoiding damage to air diffuser(s) pipework.
3. Leave a little sludge.

Note: Plastic Media Strings are tethered to the inside walls of the Inner Treatment Chamber.

MK1 
2001–2003

T Range

1. Remove crust from Outer Settlement Chamber.
2. Empty from Central Treatment Chamber avoiding removal of mobile plastic media.
3. Leave a little sludge.

T Range

MK2
2003–2013

T Range

1. Remove crust from Outer Settlement Chamber.
2. Empty from vertical orange pipe, 150mm (6”) diameter, within Central Treatment Chamber. 

Note: This pipe has holes in it that are smaller than the mobile plastic media

3. Leave a little sludge.

Biodigester Bonus Mk I

Mk1 Biodigester Bonus Suspended Media Pack
1993-2001

T Range

Supplied with a separate Primary Settlement Tank or added to an existing tank.

  1. Empty all stages of the Primary Settlement Tank taking the crust off first and leaving a little sludge. Two chamber Suspended Media Pack with pump.

  2. Empty Pump Chamber adjacent to the pump.

  3. Empty Final Settlement Chamber under media pack adjacent to outlet pipe.

Bonus Range

Mk1 Biodigester Standard Suspended Media Pack
1993–2001

Four chamber Suspended Media Pack with pump

  1. Empty the two Primary Settlement Chambers first removing any crust and leaving a little sludge.

  2. Empty Pump Chamber adjacent to the pump.

  3. Empty Final Settlement Chamber adjacent to outlet pipe.

Biodigester Bonus Mk II

Mk 2 Submerged Aerated Filters (SAF) 1997-Current

T Range

Bonus Biodigesters are supplied with a new Primary Settlement Tank or are added on to an existing tank.

  1. Empty all stages of the Primary Settlement Tank taking the crust off first leaving a little sludge.

  2. The Biodigester Bonus has a Final Settlement Chamber with an automatic sludge return/recycle pump. This chamber does not need to be emptied on a regular basis but may occasionally need to be emptied and cleaned.

Biodigester Standard Mk II

Mk2 Biodigester Standard Submerged Aerated Filter (SAF) 1997–Current

T Range

  1. Empty both Primary Settlement Chambers taking the crust off first and leaving a little sludge.

  2. The Biodigester Standard has a Final Settlement Chamber with an automatic sludge return/recycle pump. This chamber does not need to be emptied on a regular basis but some may occasionally need to be emptied and cleaned.

The frequency for routine emptying of the Primary Settlement Tank(s) is dependent upon each project design. Refer to specific instructions issued. Periodic emptying and cleaning of the Irrigation Sump and Final Settlement Tank also required.
